On 12 and 13 November, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) organised a Brussels held foresight workshop on nuclear workforce and skills. As part of the workshop, nucleareurope’s Jessica Johnson represented the Skills4Nuclear (S4N) project and gave an overview of its activities.
In her intervention, Jessica highlighted the goal of the S4N project: to develop a long-term collaborative framework to address skills and workforce shortages across the nuclear sector. She then gave an overview of the project’s structure, detailing the focus of each work package, as well as the deliverables produced.
“The S4N project brings together policymakers, industry and academia to tackle the skills issue in the nuclear sector. It will cover many different applications of nuclear, including fission and fusion, but also non-power applications such as medical and space” noted Jessica, stressing that the project will also target a wide range of skillsets, such as construction, economics, or project management.
Concluding her intervention, Jessica detailed the project’s recent achievements, such as the publication of two communications deliverables, and the review of 21 national workforce assessments.
