Skills4Nuclear organises first project webinar

On 20 May 2026, Skills4Nuclear organised its first webinar, focusing on the work conducted within the project’s Work Package 2 (European Forum for Nuclear Workforce & Skills). The webinar specifically explored the outcomes of the workforce assessment analysis carried out as part of the Work Package, and presenters highlighted how this analysis can inform future guidelines on conducting national workforce assessments.

The webinar was introduced by Project Coordinator Teodora Retegan Vollmer, who gave an overview of the project’s objectives, partners and current outputs. She then gave the floor to Work Package 2 Leader Jakob Luyten, to discuss the workforce assessments analysis.

Jakob first detailed the insights gathered from the workforce assessment analysis, noting similarities in the methodologies (e.g. over 70% of the studies adopt some sort of job classification), and highlighting strengths and weaknesses commonly identified in the studies.

He then discussed how the analysis of these assessments can inform a guideline document for conducting national workforce assessments, as well as a skills strategy. He specifically noted the need to establish a harmonised job classification framework, implement recurring assessments, strengthen stakeholder collaboration and invest in education and training pipelines. He also stressed the importance, from a policy perspective, to integrate workforce planning in policy, create an attractiveness strategy and develop a European-level governance mechanism for skills.

The floor was then open to the audience for a Q&A session, key points raised by participants included the role of private companies in supporting training, knowledge transfer, as well as pathways to reinforce the nuclear sector’s attractiveness.
