Skills4Nuclear publishes new Deliverable on its proposal for a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE)

On 3 September 2026, Skills4Nuclear published Deliverable 5.2 as part of work package 5 (Strategic Foresight & Funding Opportunities). The Deliverable, entitled “Submitted Proposal for Campus of Vocational Scientific Excellence in Nuclear Skills” is a proof of submission by Université de Caen Normandie of a Centre of Vocational Excellence (COVE) project proposal: “NuclEUs - Building Europe’s Nuclear Skills Ecosystem for Nuclear Vocational Education and Training.”

 

The project, planned to run over the course of 4 years, would aim to increase cooperation and improve reskilling to address the shortage of nuclear technicians for power and non-power applications. It would do this by creating a shared community of 20 partners and 5 associated partners connecting higher education, research, public authorities, VET providers, industry and employment actors. The goal being simplified transfer of nuclear skills.

 

The project proposal identifies regional hubs in five participating countries: Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, and Romania. Targeting EQF levels 3–5 learners, as well as workers, teachers, trainers, and researchers. Specific target demographics include women, young people, career changers, and people experiencing industrial transition.

 

The project would further map workforce needs, design employer-validated learning outcomes and Nuclear Skills Portfolios, and adapt selected vocational pathways in fields such as welding, maintenance, construction, automation and quality assurance to nuclear-sector requirements. It would also develop practical work-based and digital resources

 

By making competencies more transparent and portable, the project has the potential to strengthen Vocational Education & Training (VET), improve recruitment and reskilling, and provide a broader European model for industrial resilience and competitiveness in the clean energy transition.
